Gran Paradiso indeed

I'm happy to report that the latest version of Gran Paradiso - AKA Firefox 3 - has improved the rendering of images, removing the errors that frustrated me about Firefox 2 compared to Safari 3.

Feature-wise, it's a solid little browser. None of my extensions work at present, but that's to be expected of Alpha software.

Safari VS. FireFox

A quick visual demonstration of my conflict between these two great browsers.

The text is rendered very differently, as is the blue of the title. Safari's rendering is more pleasing to me, maybe you disagree. But I doubt you'll disagree with the fact that these comparisons very much place favor on Safari:

FireFox's efforts are first, with Safari's second.

Safari clearly has the superior image rendering. But there's my major problem. FireFox is more reliable and seems to like Flash better than Safari does.

Looks like I'll have to use both.

Using Safari

I got out of the habit after those security bugs were publicised, but since I've updated it a couple of times since then, "I figured...What the hell?"*

It feels great to be on holiday at last. Way laid back. I can spend my time just chilling and messing around again, at last. And as part of that, it's come to my attention that the only two apps I'm using right now are made by Apple.

iTunes 7 and Safari 3. Speaking of iTunes, I'm willing to bet iTunes 8 is due alongside OS X Leopard, or at least the next iPod refresh. This year. Think October time. Feature-wise, I think it will add a more global Video Store (TV and movies in the UK? I can but pray). It will also add support for the latest iPods. Obviously. Probably something more as well. DVD playback for example.

You heard me.

Speaking of video playback, have any of you tried Miro? It's a godsend. Between Miro and Joost, what's the point in TV? Miro is great because it allows automatic video downloading in any format. DivX and XviD nerds aren't left out in the cold with Miro.

And it can search popular video sharing sites, like YouTube, Veoh, Google Video, Revver and Daily Motion. Very nice.

I need to get down to an Apple Store soon. I want to try out a Mighty Mouse. That scroll ball intrigues me and I'm sick of wireless mice. I may also grab an Apple Keyboard if I like them enough. The USB ports interest me.

Reporting a failure to load. Very odd indeed. FireFox 2 and Safari 3 Beta, both on XP, load the page halfway, then it bugs out and crashes the application. Safari displays some of the top menus on the page, then stops. Firefox displays some content, then just white.

Both applications failed to respond after this.

Strange.

Problem persists, but symptoms have changed slightly. No more whiteout in FireFox

Safari

Well, once again, I have changed browsers. As of yesterday, Safari 3 has been available in beta form. On OS X Tiger and Windows (Vista and XP).

I have been using Safari on XP since the first moment I could. And what a browser it is, speedy and gorgeous.

That's pretty much all I feel the need to say on that...

Leopard is looking good, and it will be released before I go Mac, meaning I get all these awesome looking new features and the gorgeous new interface as standard. Score.

Anyway, onto other things. I just inherited an XBOX (The original one). It's...An XBOX. Nothing much to say about it. Except that it rips CDs at an astoundingly slow rate.

Getting Red Steel soon, so my time will probably get taken up by that. Reminds me, Halo 3 Beta kicked ass.

This post is very bitty. Lots to cover...I'll resume normal services next time.

It's funny, the more I hear about this so-called smaller, more intimate E3, the more it sounds like it's become even more intense. Curiously enough, I actually want to be there at the press briefings. Just hope it lives up to expectations.
